Have you ever wondered who Major Nelson was before he was Major Nelson. Will the real Larry Hryb please stand up?
I decided to look at his website, but saw the usual fodder; New Rockband songs, avatar clothes, and posts about upcoming Xbox products. A one time frequent listener, I decided to unsubscribe because I enjoyed more community oriented shows. I noticed his blog archives on the left side of the page, and they dated back till 2004. 5 years of blogging about Microsoft related products! That’s a long time, and I’m sure he has seen the service grow to the robust universe that XBox Live is today.
The few posts in 2004 had a different tone than the more recent posts. The tone of the writings echoed a gamer who blogged about his experiences, instead of a person explaining upcoming releases. He notes his Halo 2 frustrations on one post, and openly discusses his affinity for the PSP. I was pleasantly surprised to see the devoted gamer.
My goal is not to speak negative about Major Nelson. I really appreciate all of the information he provides. He has an incredibly tough job, since he is a public figure. When fans are upset at Microsoft he becomes the Lightening Rod. Larry is extremely talented at Radio, and is an excellent interviewer. Over the years we have seen more Major Nelson, and less Larry Hryb. Sometimes, it’s a pleasure to see Clark Kent instead of Superman.

I wrote this post, because I hear a lot of people talk about Major Nelson, and how he is just a frontman. When I was looking at the archives on his website, I was pleasantly surprised to see the devoted gamer side of him. just food for thought
