Alas, three years, six months, 3 days and tens of thousands of gaming hours later, my box has finally gone to join the others of his kind. I regret to inform all of you that last night at 6:38pm it red ringed permanently. I took it apart and tried to perform open heart surgery without any luck. I do believe the red rings are permanent this time. It froze on me Monday night after about 10 minutes and I just passed it off as usual but when it froze again last night after only 1 minute of operation I knew it was the end. You may not see me on for a while. I may not get one until the community playdate but I will be getting one at some point.

Microsoft quality strikes again…Wonder if there’s a way to get a PS3 onto LIVE?
I’d never LOL on this stuff…everytime a 360 gets RROD, just makes me ill. Sorry to hear bout this.

Was that a release unit? If so, it lasted a long time (by 360 standards, my Atari 2600 still works).
Condolences buddy. 3-Red-Lights isn’t as damning as it used to be. It definitely sucks but there are fixes. Not sure of exactly where you live but if you check Craigslist for your area you will find a bunch of people that do 3-Red-Light fixes. Typically about $50 and works pretty well. Alternately, you can buy the fix off Ebay and try it yourself. I recommend having someone else do it though!
@tanis38
I got it in January of 06. I think it was before they changed anything though so I would say it is a launch window unit but not necessarily a “launch” unit.
@ full tilt
I would rather fix it myself. I took it apart already and put it back together but I didnt really do anything. I had read somewhere that the gpu gets warped and you just have to solder it back on but i didnt find anything that wasnt soldered.
If you ebay search 3 red lights you’ll find stuff like the XClamp which supposedly works pretty well. It’s more of a warping of the motherboard and the chips break away. There’s a real good explanation here:

Good luck!
Fix it! You have a relic on your hands! Don’t let it die!
