In this Episode we cover “drama”. Tomonobu Itagaki abruptly leaving Team Ninja and Tecmo. Also, we reply to some recent reviews that were posted on iTunes. Scott is mourning the loss of his third Xbox, while Allen adds more games to his conquered list. This is the longest Episode ever due to Maverick’s bad editing skills, but one that is good nonetheless. You have just now tuned in to GamerHusbands Radio.

Will the hype of Too Human sway you to buy it?

I totally agree with you Poostick
Even on that rational I still wouldn’t give GTAIV a ten, and I love the game. Is the gameplay enjoyable, Definately…good enough to not even count the graphics when playing it. The whole sandbox environment alone wins with me any time. Is the game frustrating at times because of the gameplay….Definately, this game digressed in driving mechanics that I so enjoyed in the previous iterations. If a company is going to digress in their product then I will be frustrated with it. (ie, MLB 2k7 graphics better than 2k8). What is wrong with a world of 80s and 90s, I still find those good scores. If game critics are gonna grade games on different catagories then I don’t expect too many 10s and I can live with that. They get paid to be objective and when they aren’t across the board then why not give everything a 10. Based on enjoyment and time spent playing, their should be a ton more 10s on the market than their are. I just feel I have 8.5-9.5 games that are more enjoyable and long lasting than GTAIV, so when the “professionals” grade this as the most enjoyable game out there, I don’t believe the hype of it…something smells fishy about the collective scores now a days. My friend’s list alone shows me how great GTAIV is as time goes on. Is it a great game to me if it’s not a 10, Yup. I just don’t believe it is and that too is my opinion.
Oops, forgot to mention: We definately want to do more Community Q and A’s where we interview the gaming community. We have one person already lined up that we want to interview.
If anyone else would be interested in being a part of the Community Q and A just contact us by this site or by contacting any of us to let us know you are interested.
Also, thanks Poostick for your comments. We enjoy the discourse that you bring, we love hearing your thoughts cuz you bring up great points.
I didnt necessarily mean to defend Gta4 as a 10 game. just that calling a game a ten doesnt mean that you are saying it is perfect just that your enjoyment on a scale of one to ten. I also concur that these reviews handing out scores of ten left and right is getting out of hand. Save the tens for truly exceptional games. but in the end a score is just one persons opinion anyway that is why I go by my friends opinion first.
I would do a community review if anyone is interested in hearing my opinion on crap. if interested just send me a message on live or myspace and we could set something up, or not your call. I may not be all that interesting lol
Cool, I’ll add ya to the list. Definately interested in hearing about you mr. dirtypoo.
It’s remarkable how you descend from not agreeing with, but understanding, where someone comes from in leaving a less than positive review, to calling that person a jerk before all is said and done. It’s amazing how you claim to welcome all feedback, but then spend the time to slam those that leave you less than a review full of positive laurels. Seemingly, rather than welcoming constructive criticism, you’d rather receive positive reviews no matter what, believing that there is no room for improvement in your podcast.
Negative reviews should serve as a benchmark for improvement, not a talking point to trash those that leave them. In the digital world, it is far too easy to stroke one’s ego by solely focusing on those things that add credence to your view, but by doing that you never allow yourself room for any improvement. You certainly can look at all the positive reviews you’ve received and feel good about what you’ve done, but where is the challenge to be better than what you are?
Sadly, rather than take what was honestly said as a challenge for improvement, you chose to take the low road, insulting and belittling a loyal listener. Nothing in the comment that was left was condescending or scathing. Rather, it was was an honest opinion left to hopefully open your eyes to the idea that you can be more than just the four college friends bantering about games. But, by your insults and belittlement, you show that you are trying to be nothing more than stereotypical gamers bent on perpetuating the tired stigmas that go along with that title. And by these actions you are proving the idea that being a gamer and being a husband are two diametrically opposed positions.
There is no expectation that you are attempting to make social commentary on being both husbands and gamers, but I’m sure you can appreciate how your title would leave some to that idea. Your podcast is the same as many, many others. But I had hoped, and still do, that you will bridge the gap between husband and gamer more than you so so briefly in your shows. The recent episode with your wives was a good example of what potential you have. I have hope that you will hammer out all the rough portions of your broadcast so that Gamer Husbands Radio actually stands apart from the myriad of other podcasts that dot the internet. I do enjoy your show, even though they seem to run an hour longer than need be, and will continue to listen. But for future reference gentlemen, don’t automatically assume that just because a fan leaves less than positive feedback, that they don’t like your show.
Being that I did not ‘name call’, I’ll leave the others to address that. But I do stand by my opinion that I stated in the latest episode. We want to put out a show that everyone enjoys but balancing that with all the different tastes out there has proven challenging. We’ve heard “You spend too much time on gaming news”, “not enough time on gaming news”, “shows are too long”, “long podcast help get me through work”, “your podcast is just like all the others”, “these guys have a unique show,” and so forth. Ultimately, we cannot please everyone though Mav does change up the shows from time to time. I can understand Mav’s frustration because your review came out after the Wives Episode had been out and he put a lot of time and effort into organizing that one. The very thing you critiqued us for was what that episode focal point was. There are episodes where we discuss balancing our responsibilities with our passion for gaming. But there are other shows where we just want to talk about games and get away from that for a few hours. All in all we want this to be enjoyable to all (including ourselves) and we want to get better and better.
The assumption that you were not a fan stems from the below average rating we received (2 stars). Why commit yourself to something you find below average?
Because as I said, if you receive nothing but positive praise, how will you grow? The critique was written before I had a chance to listen to the wives episode. But, even with that one episode to point to as one of the best, there is still a lot of room to set yourselves apart from the rest of the already crowded field of gaming podcasts.
Just an update: Called MAX at Xbox Support (I have them programmed in my cellphone now, how sad) and my 360 is repaired and shipped. I should have it within 5 business days. I’m impressed with the expediency of the order this time. Hopefully it’s an HDMI one.
TeeTocks – Hopefully you’ve taken this time to improve your gaming environment.
@ JD. Lol, I have…the penguins I’ve shipped in are enjoying the snow and popsicles in my living room.
Be sure to set the new box diagonally. Seems to work for someone else. P.S. – I am not scared of the mic
Diagonally?!? …pfft. I’m gonna 1up Alfred and hang my from the ceiling by some yarn.
Then you can play a real life version of viva pinata.
Unfortunately if any candy falls out of the 360, it voids my warranty.
