Cheaters, thy name is pwned…..

In what I consider a welcome move, Microsoft is going to start calling out cheaters. Now mind you, this isn’t cheaters who place a mic up to a speaker to get an achievement, but rather people who knowingly manipulate a game to excel over others. For a little while now, Microsoft has adopted a policy of resetting a cheater’s gamerscore to 0 in order to discourage cheating. After evaluating this policy, it has been determined that it wasn’t working as well as they had thought, and thus the new policy was born. With the new policy, if someone is found to be cheating, glitching, profile switching, etc, then their gamerscore will be set to 0 as before, but now their gamercard will also be labeled with a “Cheater” tag. We’ll see how this one works out. The article that I read did not list any more specifics, like how long you will be branded as a cheater. I personally don’t care if I was labeled a cheater (I don’t cheat), but with a gamerscore that has yet to top 5000, I don’t have much to lose. Any thoughts on this one?

Cheating that ruins fun for other gamers definately should be punished. Took MS long enough but better late than never I suppose.

I don’t think it will change a thing, serious gamers dont cheat and gamers who do won’t care what the punishment is….it’s just a part of gaming and thats why we have amazing communities like this so that we can game with people who are worth playing with :)

Cheats used to go hand in hand with games back in the day. But now that we’ve got this community component to it seems to infringe on your E-Honor. If cheating allows you to enjoy the game you bought more, then by all means go right ahead, just as long as your cheating doesn’t infringe on my gaming experience

I agree with Vince. It’s one thing to use a walkthrough or something like that to get past a tough spot in a poorly designed game. I even remember the days of Game Shark/Genie, etc, when you could use cheat codes for unlimited lives, etc. Now the landscape is different. Multiplayer is the way to go with many games, and cheating ruins the experience. For instance, what fun is it when someone is modding in Halo and has automatic headshots?
