This was one of my most exciting games from PAX East. It’s a must-have. Joe Danger is a combination Trials HD, Excite Bike, and Little Big Planet. It’s brought to us by a small group of 4 friends that formed Hello Games. It’s been confirmed to have local multiplayer and over 60 levels. You’re a giant-headed Evel Kneivel twin riding this bright red motocycle. You have the option of racing your friends along a straight track with lots of hazards (ramps, shark tanks, trucks). As you perform tricks you build up speed boosts. The racing / trick portion looks extremely fun.

Besides the 60 built-in levels it also has a robust build system. It was easy to pick up the controller and start designing a level. I was able to drop in ramps and trucks and a shark tank with extreme ease. It also allows you to build the level step by step and test the track as you go. It makes it simple to prove the track is possible without waiting until the end of the level design.

It’s a bright and fun game. Graphics that will draw the kids in for hours. So far it’s only on PSN but there are rumors of a Live version coming.

I don’t like racing games. I’ve enjoyed one or two over the years but not many. Outrun was fun when I could get my quarter up to play. I vaguely remember playing some Test Drive on my Commodore 64. Other than those, I don’t remember anything really catching my eye.

For those reasons, I didn’t even look at Burnout Paradise until recently. Now I’m tempted by a racing game for the first time in decades. This title calls to the geek in me. First it showed the Delorean. Now it’s adding Ecto 1 from Ghostbusters, KITT from Knight Rider and the General Lee from Dukes of Hazzard.

Time to run to GameStop.

Criterion Games announced this week that Burnout Paradise will be available this week via download from the PlayStation Store for $29.99. More details after the jump. Criterion Games announced this week that Burnout Paradise will be available this week via download from the PlayStation Store for $29.99.

Buying the game gets you all the original Burnout Paradise disk content. If you missed it, that’s all 5 neighbourhoods in the Paradise City open world filled with hundreds of Road Rage, Stunt Run, Marked Man and Burning Route events. Every street in the city features a Road Rules record time and Showtime score to beat. Take it online, and you’ll witness the seamless arrival of up to 7 friends. Collaborate with them to beat 350 Freeburn Challenges – simple challenges taking you all over Paradise City.

Starting the game will then immediately trigger the download of all our updates, including the recent Cagney Pack and Burnout Bikes. A pack delivering PS3 Trophy Support will be released imminently and included for free. And there’s plenty more to come. They’re developing a new island location and much, much more.

If Sony starts offering current generation games on their PSN Store, will that give them another bullet point in the console war that Microsoft will have to answer to? I don’t even know that Microsoft would be able to offer this and expect it to be successful, due to the majority of console owners at this juncture having 20 GB hard drives.
