Pax East – Joe Danger

This was one of my most exciting games from PAX East. It’s a must-have. Joe Danger is a combination Trials HD, Excite Bike, and Little Big Planet. It’s brought to us by a small group of 4 friends that formed Hello Games. It’s been confirmed to have local multiplayer and over 60 levels. You’re a giant-headed Evel Kneivel twin riding this bright red motocycle. You have the option of racing your friends along a straight track with lots of hazards (ramps, shark tanks, trucks). As you perform tricks you build up speed boosts. The racing / trick portion looks extremely fun.

Besides the 60 built-in levels it also has a robust build system. It was easy to pick up the controller and start designing a level. I was able to drop in ramps and trucks and a shark tank with extreme ease. It also allows you to build the level step by step and test the track as you go. It makes it simple to prove the track is possible without waiting until the end of the level design.

It’s a bright and fun game. Graphics that will draw the kids in for hours. So far it’s only on PSN but there are rumors of a Live version coming.

Burnout is the game that keeps on giving. A few weeks ago we got the Legendary Car downloadable content. This Thursday comes the Toy Cars. Save those space bucks if you want to be tooling around Paradise City in these tiny racers!

Burnout Paradise

I don’t like racing games. I’ve enjoyed one or two over the years but not many. Outrun was fun when I could get my quarter up to play. I vaguely remember playing some Test Drive on my Commodore 64. Other than those, I don’t remember anything really catching my eye.

For those reasons, I didn’t even look at Burnout Paradise until recently. Now I’m tempted by a racing game for the first time in decades. This title calls to the geek in me. First it showed the Delorean. Now it’s adding Ecto 1 from Ghostbusters, KITT from Knight Rider and the General Lee from Dukes of Hazzard.

Time to run to GameStop.
