The NPD numbers are looking more like "business as usual" for yet another month. I don't even think New Kids on the Block lasted on top this long. But, that's a good thing. It's interesting because the Wii isn't the top seller this month. It is second place by over a 100,000 units to it's little brother the DS. The DS has definitely picked up steam, since it has been deemed as the choice console for on-the-go people. I will crown Nintendo the victor only when my parents buy a Wii or DS product. Until then, the race is still on! Click here for the numbers, courtesy of 1up.

There definitely seems to be a rebirth in the Role-Playing genre. Xbox 360 has many upcoming RPG titles, and it has never been a RPG based console. The DS receives another remake of a classic Final Fantasy. Final Fantasy IV was just released for the Nintendo DS, now making the DS light the RPG console of choice. Already hosting a cast of classic RPG's, FFIV is considered the begining of teenage angst and melodrama in RPG's. Story, being the main driving point in FFIV, captures the player unexpectedly. Cecil, a Dark Knight, begins the game on a quest for his power hungry king. He is also joined by Cain, a dragoon. Cecil and Caine's story is a great one, and many other exciting characters join (and leave) the party. This is a must have for RPG lovers and DS owners. The graphics are completely revamped and have a nice coat of 3D paint applied to it. Famed composer, Nobuo Umaetsu reworks the classic music. Also the characters are based on the original artwork of Tetsuya Nomura. Square has also ported Final Fantasy III to DS which was never released into America. Time to start saving money for a DS.

Having an urge to play some street fighter, but not wanting to pay some Space Bucks on marketplace, I went digging through my dreamcast games and found Street Fighter III. Wow. This is a fun game, and it really has the essence of classic Street Fighter combat. The intensive combos do stray away from SF norm, but the combos aren't to difficult to remember. Capcom is moving away from the combo heavy games, and returning to the classic stree fighting style. If you are needing a street fighter fix and still have a dreamcast, this is one to definitely check out.

This time next week gamers will finally be able to have a personal opinion of Too Human. Video Game's own TomKat or Brangelina will finally have it's own Red Carpet to your xbox 360. The media has been shredding this game ever since the abysmal playable demo at E3 2006. Silicon Knights president Dennis Dyack has been on the offensive about the game. He has personally called out the Neogaf community, and has staked his notoriety on this game's success. The focus of the game is the story along with character customization. The story, based on Norse mythology, seems intersting. It's still too early to know if the game will be fun, but Dyack is an excellent salesman.

If you like Subway subs then you could have a chance to win a Subway $25 gift card. Okay so here's how: Just participate in the "Name the Game Game" and be at the top of the leaderboard by Sept 30th at 12 noon. Rules are at the beginning of the thread and even show hosts are eligible to win this too (excluding myself of course). So use your game knowledge to sleuth out the answers to the games that I will give clues to. Good luck!

Do you remember the days when Super Nintendo (SNES) games cost $59.99? I remember saving all of my lunch money for summer camp to buy Street Fighter II on day one. (Day One Confirmed!) Well, to be honest my mom put the last $10 with it, because she was so proud of us for saving all of that money. Times have changed. SNES games were too high for their time, and as a consequence new games debuted at $49.99 or less. In a strategic move to battle Madden 05, 2k games released NFL 2k5 for $19.99. EA bought the exclusive NFL license the next year. Before the release of the Xbox 360, Microsoft promised that games would release for no more than $49.99. That didn't happen. Before people think this is an article of complaints, I will digress. Video game budgets are beginning to rival movie budgets. Halo 3 cost $30 million dollars to make. The average PS3 game costs $15 million. The current prices are understandable due to the high production costs of games, but the flood of games to the store shelves causes small caliber games to be squeezed out of sight. With nearly every Next-Gen game debuting at $59.99, gamers are really picky with their gaming dollar. Especially with the slowdown of the American economy. A new game is nearly $70.00 with taxes, so gamers have to plan for new purchases weeks and months in advance. Pre-ordering is an ideal way to pay for new game purchasing. But, even that can get expensive when buying multiple games. If games were released at various prices, lesser marketed games can compete with the bigger named franchises. Assassins Creed is a testament of this solution. After receiving many bad reviews, retailers worried the game's sales would not match the marketing hype. In an unprecedented move, the price dropped withing the first month of the game's release. Now Ubsioft is struggling to find a place to put the money it's making from Assassins Creed. Even superceding Ubisoft's sales projections, Assassins Creed has sold over 6 million units. It's also one of the fastest sellers on the Xbox 360. If more games were released under $59.99 gamers would be encouraged to buy more than one game at a time. Retailers would sell more units and smaller publishers wouldn't have the stress of trying to compete with AAA titles in the same price bracket. Also, people would spend more money on new games, instead of waiting for used copies, which publishers make no money from. Gamers would be less dependent on used game stores, which would allow publishers to profit from new game purchases. Is there a mystery to why one used game reseller made close to 15 billion dollars in the first quarter of 2008? Value-minded gamers are willing to wait for their titles to drop in a affordable price range. In the end, resellers are the winners. Not the publishers, who are losing millions of dollars to the used game market. And not the gamer, that trades in their games for, 25% of the original price. By receiving trade credit, the gamer buys a recently released game for $54.99 used and the new copy costs $59.99. If that game released at $39.99, gamers would buy it new. Also, the resell value wouldn't be worth trading in causing the gamer to keep it. Resell stores wouldn't have "recently released" games five dollars cheaper than the new copy, causing them to lose their main form of profit. It would be beneficial to both gamers and publishers.

Favre has done the unthinkable. He has brought the curse out of retirement also. Did anyone see the Madden Curse on the private jet with Bret Favre as he stepped out of the plane in New York? It was also next to him at the press conference. As tradition stands, the Madden Curse is back for another season of despair. Will Brett Favre be like the other Madden cover-ites who suffered injuries and non-productive seasons. Marshall Faulk went down to an ankle injury. Donovan McNabb suffered a season ending Sports-Hernia. Eddie George had the downfall of his career in 2001 with a loss to the Ravens in a playoff game. Michael Vick was injured doing a preseason game, and missed the entire year. What will happen to Brett and the Jets? Maybe this year the curse will be reversed and the Jets will be a good team?
