NCAA 11 and Madden 11 review

October 21st, 2010

Every July, NCAA comes out to wet our appetites for football and every August, Madden delivers the full featured thrill of the virtual gridiron.  In other words, NCAA is always the appetizer to the main course that is Madden.  Yet something strange has happened in 2010, NCAA ’11 stepped on the scene and was greeted with much praise from gamers and critics alike.  Everyone used the new NCAA game as a baseline for how great Madden would be this year, since for years NCAA has always been one step behind its big brother.   So it would’ve seemed to everyone that since NCAA was so good this year, that surely Madden would be the best iteration that we’ve had this generation.  Madden ’11 arrived a month later with a loud and thunderous…..thud.  What could have possibly gone wrong?  After all, the two games are both developed by Tiburon, albeit two different design teams, and sharing some of the same “new” technology/features (locomotion, run blocking, etc.) for the first time that I can remember.

I would like to evict Activision, specifically Bobby Kotick, for the way they have been treating their developers and IPs the past few years.  The latest debacle involving Infinity Ward is just the final straw that breaks the camels back.

These developers made Activision hordes of cash and the only thanks they get is to make the same game over and over again or else.  Let’s list some of Kotick’s mistakes…..

PSA: PS3 “fat” model bug

March 1st, 2010
By: storybook77

UPDATE:  The problem seems to be resolved by the passing of time and not Sony’s technical expertise. :P

If you own a pre-slim PS3, do not turn it on as there seems to be a bug with the calendar of it’s OS.  It will set it to some random past date and you will not be able to log into PSN, be able to play some games, and your trophies will not sync up.  Sony is aware of the issue and is working towards a resolution.

If you have a slim PS3, you’re good to go.

Did you ever get the sense at the end of last year that there weren’t as many AAA gotta have titles released as has been the custom of years past?  Wondered where all of the games were that you were supposed to be playing in 2009?

As every gamer knows, this is typically the time of year where we can all relax and catch up on our backlogs, aka the pile of shame, that we’ve added even more games to during the holiday season.   I hope you all were able to catch up very quickly because the AAA games are coming over the course of the next 3 months.  This is what last fall should have looked like had it not been for Modern Warfare 2.  There is just one problem. We no longer have an excuse to get other people to purchase all of this gaming goodness for us since Christmas has come and gone.  Everyone has to figure out a way to get the games they want on their own or coerce someone into getting them for you.  You might want to be a little more loving this Valentine’s Day! ;)

What follows is a rundown of significant titles that are coming in the following months, so if you want to see why you, your wallet, your family, and anyone who is used to seeing you, even for a minute, in the outside world should be worried, follow the link….
