Turkey Time, Turkey Time! If gangsters with open shirts, hairy chests draped in gold chains, and hot women in the car makes you smile, then Gangstar Rio might be a game to check out. Some of the AAA sandbox games are being released, and it’s perfect timing for one to come to our handhelds and tablet devices. Gangstar Rio grabbed my attention with the trailer. Some of the goodies include; heliocopters, planes, ATV’s, and big gune. These are essentials for a good open world. Hopefully it has an entertaining narrative too. This game is coming to Iphone, Ipad and Android devices, so most people will have a chance to play it.

I’m not even going to put into words what I just saw. The phrase, “if we think it, we can make it,”  applies to this toy box filled adventure. As many wait to payback Russia in Modern Warfare 3, or  chase down flying dragons in, The Elder Scrolls V:Skyrim, there is a choose your own adventure in Saints Row:The Third. Just watch the trailer, and i’m sure you will be wondering where to insert quarters.

The details of Modern Warfare 3 have  been unofficially leaked, according to an article in Kotaku. Activision hasn’t even  released the name  of the upcoming successor in the Call of Duty franchise. The  name, Modern Warfare 3, was part of the leak.  In recent years, the Cod franchise has been the most important franchise in gaming history. Last year’s iteration, Call of Duty: Black Ops  grossed over 1 billion dollars in revenue.

The source of the leak is questionable and Activision is not excluded from the lists of culprits. In the era of the 24 hour news cycle, PR could be the life or death of a game. THQ’s Homefront moved over 1 million units its first week following a successful ad campaign. A great way to generate some  buzz is to unofficially release details of the most anticipated title for 2011. Many of the game’s locales and multiplayer maps have been exposed in a way reminiscent of an official release. Some of the details that were leaked include(don’t worry, I won’t spoil): The single player campaign being rumored to continue after the Russian invasion of America in Modern Warfare II andSpec Ops  receiving new modes. Players can also expect more perks and modes in the multiplayer dept. With the depth of details that were leaked, is this Activision’s way of releasing details and not having to field questions concerning the game? Since the leak was  “unofficial,” this protects IW from any responsibility.  Infinity Ward’s Creative Strategist Robert Bowling clears some of the confusion up on his twitter account.

“A lot of hype & a lot of leaked info on #MW3, some still accurate, some not. To avoid spoiling the experience, I’d wait for the real reveal.”

Or maybe not. But he does concede that some of the details are true.

November is now the month for confetti and party hats, because it is unofficially Call of Duty’s birthday and fans  will line up in droves to buy Modern Warfare 3. With Battlefield 3 stealing the spotlight, this leak seems like an unofficial attempt to turn the spotlight towards Soap MacTavish. EA, like Manny Pacquiao, is challenging MW3 to the ring, but the once great champion, Activision,  has been relegated to unofficially releasing details on how great its next fight is going to be.

We’re Back! After a week of braving thunderstorms, tornadoes, and power outtages, the GHR crew sits down and relives some of the crazy moments from last week. While the storms subsided on the outside, we brought one of the most controversial guests ever, The Scargfinger, on the show this week. 1. Mike –  I have a hard time understanding why, with the amount of good quality games there are for a given system, why          people would play seemingly dated xbox acrade/3ds/iphone/ipad games instead? I look at these photos of the new 3ds         games and they look worse than SNES graphics.

We all know that the transition from PS2 and Xbox to PS3 and 360 did not go so well in terms of backwards compatibility.         Do you guys think the next consoles will have 100% backwards compatibility? If not, will any of you decide not to get the next         console? Let\’s face it, it would be a damn shame to lose all these great games for PS3 and 360 because the next             generation console are not compatible.
One last thing that all gamers must know. THE PC rules in backwards compatibility. We can still play PC games developed         and released as far back as 1995. Go figure. There are no lost games for PC!

3.  Meef J – I decided against sending in hatemail from two shows back when Alfred was asking Allen about Dragon Age 2, so imagine         my excitement when JD and Tilt called Allen out on last week’s show. What’s up with the whole “why are you asking me         questions” attitude? It’s a gaming podcast, right? Where you talk about games? That whole Dragon Age 2 conversation was         neither helpful nor discouraging, but merely slightly informative and uncomfortable. I almost had to pull a “EDG” and listen at         2x speed! I hope I am not inconveniencing Allen with this email. =X

For some reason unbeknown-st to the gaming community, 2k games decided not to run one of their adds featuring Serena Williams and an un-named actress. Now, to be fair, this stuff happens all of the time for various reason. Games cut out sections and re-release them later as downloadable content. Advertisers make multiple commercials-ads and targets specific demographics. Not all commercials make it to the public. People shouldn’t begin demanding a witch trial for 2 scantily clad women using the move controller. This is nothing more than a Victioria’s Secret commercial with a video game backdrop.

Well, well, well…

I have listened to you guys for years now and cant believe what I heard last week in the gamer night segment by Mr ghr superman, aka “Bigtime”. Bigtime said he was playing a group that included Weasel, Dragon… etc, and “that one guy I cant remember”. I guess its true that some people dont remember the names of the people who they stepped on on their way to the top. I mean I have been listening since you guys were only 3 episodes deep. I guess I could be easily forgotten, but it was my name Mr Bigtime was cursing when he was bleeding out and calling for help. (cough 30 and 6 cough, cough) I mean I am just at the top of his friends list everytime he looks at it. Oh well I am just glad SOME of the ghr hosts appreciate their fan base. Well Mav, if you are reading this, please let Bigtime know I appreciate his editing of the show. Darned if he will remember me saying it.

PPPS. What do you mean Homefront got bad reviews? The only review they have is OPM Italy and they gave it 90 out of a 100. Is this not good enough for you? Jk. I have heard a lot of positive things about it. I think you confused it with something else. Turning point, perhaps? Anyhow its coming next week (I think) and I am hoping you are just mistaken and not a prophet.

Okay, so to answer Alfred’s question on this weeks show, Hillary Clinton is not good looking in any strecth of the imagination. I’m starting to question his opinion as of late. He talks of buying episodes of jersey shore, which is completely nuts, and talks on twitter about liking the show teen mom. My wife watches that show.  I’m not sure guys should be watching it though. Lol Of course I don’t hold it against him. I really enjoy the show guys, and look forward to it every week. It makes life on the farm even more enjoyable. Also, Scott needs to calm down on his twitter, his avatar pics are somewhat disturbing, and nipple references are just weird to say the least. Lol

Hey, in between podcasts I’ve been catching up with show’s I’ve missed in the past. The most recent episode’s I’ve listened to: 142, 145, 146 & 147. Specifically Show #147 the GHR Superman Heavy Turkey day episode, I am answering his question, “what old-school title would you like to see brought back?” I have two, they are;
I am  a purdy specific FPS guy, but my origins reside in the side scrolling/ platformer. When Castle Crasher hit I was thrown back to my good O’L-days. Since we’re throwing things around I would like to see Donkey Kong Jr brought back to the XBL Arcade. I don’t want to see this brought back to the “cabinet” consoles because I couldn’t afford to pay $1500 for this new system. (hahhaehee) I mean, clean up the graphics maybe add a few maps that we could trash talk and hate on. I remember wasting a 5hit-ton of days/hours and quarters in this machine. I can hear DK jr stomping around in my head…..
Second; I would like to see the first cross platform MMO console, 3rd or 1st person shooter in a New Mech Warrior. I know this was done recently but I would like to see it done in the MAG “Sandbox” style.I want to see this done with the 256 player MAG boasted but fell short in.
In closing, my future console ideas?…..I would like to see some competition from other companies like; Apple, Dell and Sega. The tech will all be there, meaning new tech will have the most recent hardware. This may lead into a new question; do we have a big enough market to support another console? I mean why ISN’T it already out there? Why don’t we have another console. (wii peole not included, this goes with out saying. I’m speaking of online gaming/multiplayer)

What is going on in the gaming industry this week? Activision pulls the plug on any and everything named Hero? Wow! Is the PSP dead? No, screams Cecil and Kain from the world of Dragoons and Paladins! Final Fantasy IV was a major milestone in JRPGs, because it revived the Final Fantasy franchise. The series was becoming stagnant due to the constant light vs. dark theme. FFIV changed the formula by introducing new plot elements to the series which include; constant squabbling, heartbreak, betrayal, and scariest of all……..death. Yes, not everyone makes it to the end of the rainbow. Oops, should i have put in the **Spoiler Alert** tag for a 20 year old game?

Fans of the series will be excited. The story still holds up by today’s standards, which are lower  due to the sludge of crappy JRPGs. Cecil and Kain will keep your attention through their tear inducing journey. Don’t be intimidated by the 2D graphics. The battle system is top-notch, and the characters will draw you in with their moral ambiguity.

This response was written by longtime listener and  part of the GamerHusband’s family, TigersEye. It was written in response to the article written by Alfred concerning the uproar towards Activision.

I can understand the UK’s frustration if bugs on their system are not getting fixed while other systems are…but this letter sounds like one big angry fanboy cry for attention. The letter bases itself that Activision and Treyarch are intentionally ignoring the PS3 and PC consoles based on smaller percentage of market as compared to the 360. I am sure that Microsoft purchasing exclusive license rights to DLC (where DLC comes to the Xbox system first and then other platforms later) does not help the feeling of being ignored…but these facts do not prove negligence on the company’s part.

I am sure that not every PS3 owner has experienced problems and that a small percentage of the overall population of PS3 owners are actually experiencing these bugs. And even for the ones that have experienced this problem it most likely has not been every time. My friend, who plays CoD:BO on the PS3, has said he has had some connection issues, but it’s usually once out of every 15-20 games (and during high levels of server load). And haven’t they released a few patches already attempting to fix some of the issues (thus negating the point that the companies are doing nothing to fix the PS3/PC issues)?

And to say that issues aren’t happening on the 360 is just ignorance in my opinion. The 360 has seen its fair share of bugs, glitches, and issues since the release of the game (as well as post release). There have been patches but not everything has been fixed. People have to remember that the platforms operate on different software which requires different patches or fixes…so they just can’t release a patch for the 360 and port it onto the PS3.

I will concede the point that it is possible that there is a smaller support staff for the PS3 than the 360 team. This would cause slower turnouts for fixes and patches. I am sure this does not seem fair…but it’s not illegal. When you purchase the game you are making a “As Is” purchase. There are even disclaimers that say that online multiplayer experience is subject to change. Activision could theoretically never release a patch again. There could be a potential lawsuit if the multiplayer was totally broken that nobody could play it at all, but issues like lag or hit detection are harder to take to court.

As for the threats…the letter is obviously a threat…but the terms used are not uncommon for letters of this kind. Specifically, the “must reply in X amount of time” is especially common when companies try to force any information out or invoke a response. While they can be a warning before a lawsuit is filed, they are more often bluffs.

Not to play devil’s advocate, but perhaps we don’t know how much contact has been attempted before this letter. They mention the forums and a lack of response there. It’s possible PS3 users have contacted support several times but have not had any answers. They may have very well believed this was the final resort and had to do something to get their attention. However, the writers of this letter really should reflect on what they’re saying and the tone they are saying it with.

Finally, before we blame anyone for anything maybe we should look at the gamer in the mirror? Activision believes they can release a game every year and sell millions of it despite the level of quality put into the game. We as gamers do nothing to prove them wrong. Every year we run to the store on release day and pump millions of dollars into these games. This allows Activision to validate their reason to push developers into releasing a game prematurely so they can get the sales. How many of us were outraged by how the Infinity Ward creators were treated post MW2 launch and how many vowed to never support Activision again? Empty threats when sale figures are so high. If we want games to stop being so riddled with bugs we should vote with our wallets and maybe not buy games as soon as they come out.

A group of people are threatening Activision with a lawsuit concerning the mismanagement of one of their properties. Does this even ruffle the feathers over there? Activision is currently entangled in a lawsuit/counter suit web with two people who fathered their billion dollar baby, Call of Duty. As reported by CVG, a group known as, Gamer’s voice, wrote an open letter to Treyarch/Activision concerning the multiplayer component of Black Ops on the Playstation 3.

Gamers banding together and speaking with a unified voice benefits everyone. Unity shows publishers that we aren’t a whiny bunch of brats that pound our fists when situations go awry. What is with the uproar toward Activision this time? Did anyone not play Modern Warfare 2 on the Playstation 3? Wasn’t MW2 plagued with massive amounts of errors and hackers? Yes it was, and players vented by hurling obscenities towards Activision.

So, let’s get to the root of the problem. This way please………..

1.) Black Ops Sold a staggering 8.3 million copies(WorldWide) on the Playstation 3! (VGCharts) Why did everyone and their mamma go buy a copy of the game, when the previous one had so many server problems. Come on…Really?

2.) If you’re going to write an open letter to Activision, don’t sound like a PS3 fanboy.

None of this apparently applies to the Xbox 360 version, which is clearly the lead platform for the title.

It is quite obvious that you have focused a majority of your QA on the Xbox 360 version with the assumption that the majority of people who play the game will do so on that system.  Despite this, you have chosen to release it on multiple formats to maximize the revenue from sales of the game. By doing so evidence suggests that little attention was paid to the platforms with a smaller install base and hence a reduction in QA being employed for these versions.

There is little  evidence to support this claim. Patches have been released for the Playstation 3 and the Xbox 360 versions of the game. The game sold 8.3 million copies on the Playstation 3. Lead Platform arguments are ambiguous with those numbers. Also, Xbox Live  is  a paid subscription service. Microsoft has a financial obligation to stop hackers on their system, or risk losing the paid customer base. The Source of the problem could be the console.  The security flaws of the PS3 seem to be the main culprit. Also, a major hack was just announced on the PS3, where hackers can alter any part of the system with relative  ease.

3.) Write an Open letter, Not an Open threat

We therefore request that you offer by way of explanation to us why this has occurred and, more importantly, what are you going to do to recompense your customer base? You have one calendar month to respond to this letter. If no response is received or your retort fails to treat this issue with the gravity it deserves, we will be forced to take matters further.

This is a billion dollar company. If they are tied up in a multi-million dollar lawsuit with the game’s original creators. You get the point

The outrage is understandable. Customers bought a game and expected it to work. The issue is the multiplayer though. Activision isn’t beholden to provide a complete multiplayer experience. The product on the shelf is a single player campaign, with the added bonus of having multiplayer. A better way to make the Acti-Blizzard machine take notice, is to vote with you’re wallet, so when the next COD releases, the sales represent the disappointment consumers have with the product.

Just in case you were on the fence about pre-ordering Two Worlds II, this freshly released video might tip your scales. The stage shown on the video, is full of action, and gives another glance on what Two Worlds II has to offer. The Combat seems more responsive and fluid, and the game looks surprisingly good.

Two Worlds was the first game that we talked about on GamerHusbands Radio. Now, we’re on the heels of the sequel’s release date, and Two Worlds II  doesn’t invoke the same snicker it’s predecessor did. The GHR crew were treated to a behind the scenes look at Pax East 2010, and the interest has been growing since.

A lot of the interest can be attributed to the depth of customization options. Not only will players be able to craft their own spells using “spell cards,” but they will also be able to customize armor. All of these options raises the ears of this hardcore RPG fan. Infinite customization(dress-up), is something that never gets old.  This might be the game to satisfy our Dark Age appetites for a good while. Side quests are also a requirement in games of this magnitude, and that can also be a challenge. If the game has too many side quests, the player can become distracted and grow weary. If the quests are a nice dessert after some tough missions, they will be a welcomed addition. The graphics are jaw dropping, and it seems the extra time Topware Interactive had to work on this game has paid off. In the developer diary, Scott Cromie discusses the last-minute challenge of porting Two Worlds to the Xbox 360. Porting was an enormous challenge, since Two Worlds was originally developed for the PC.  Now that they’ve had time to flesh this game out we can’t wait to play the final product. Will Two Worlds II live up to the good hype surrounding it? You will be able to judge for yourself on, Tuesday January 25, 2010.

If you played the first game you might notice some changes in Dead Space 2. Isaac will talk this time. He hardly talked in the first game outside of the grunts he made as he was being attacked. In DS2 he will converse with others. This should add to the depth of the narrative. In theory, multiplayer is used to add more value to the game. Hopefully it’s more than the usual round of deathmatch and capture the flag variants. The DeadSpace faithful committ to this game, because of the suspense and narrative that it provides. If the multiplayer is tacked on, it could have the opposite effect and turn people off. it’s too early to tell. Multiplayer could be the hidden gem al la Assassins Creed:Brotherhood.

In 8 days, Isaac will traverse across our consoles in his effort to rid the universe of Necromorphs. Plasma Cutter…Check!

Kmart is going after your wallet the best way possible……by having great deals. Some of these are too good to pass up. The current pricing model, that all games should be $60, seems to be outdated, I will gladly take a backseat and tout some great deals of new games, which furthers my point about that pricing model. New games at lower prices = sales. It’s just simple economics son….simple economics
