I’ve said it before, and thank goodness I can say it again…Its good to be a fighting game fan right now. Between Super Street Fighter IV by the end of this month, to BlazBlue: Continuum Shift dropping in July, I don’t think I could be happier with the state of my favorite gaming genre.
Until now…
Today, at Capcom’s Captivate 2010 event, first info was announced on Marvel vs Capcom 3. Not many details were revealed with the flashy, good looking trailer. Old faves like Wolverine, Morrigan, Iron Man, and Hulk return, and it seems like the Berretta weilding, thorn in Umbrella’s side Chris Redfield will be joining the fray.
In interviews and write ups posted on IGN.com, the game will be powered by Capcom’s proprietary MT Framework engine, which is already pulling graphical duty in Resident Evil 5, and the upcoming Lost Planet 2. The game will not be a DLC title, but instead will be disc based game. Every aspect of the Vs series is being re-worked for this game; from balancing and graphics, to the music and storyline.
Storyline?! Yup, you read right. Apparently, Capcom is trying to piece together some sort of story for MvC3, complete with end boss and character specific endings. Of course, no details were given, but I don’t think anybody is expecting a Mass Effect guaged story for this…Its all about the fighting.
Release date is tentatively announced as “Spring of 2011″. Hyper combos will be back. No final number of characters was listed (although current level is supposed to be around 30), but already blogs are buzzing that Dante from Devil May Cry is a definate, but who knows.
Hopefully more info will be announced at E3 regarding this PS3/Xbox360 title, but I’m definately on the hype train for this one. Check out IGN.com for the trailer, interviews, and writeup. [Image from IGN.com]
