…And Now, From the “WTF?!” News Desk

The image next to this blog post is not a close-up of some monster from the next Resistance game. No–its something far worse (not to say that Resistance is a bad series. I mean, I didn’t care for them, but–back to my point).

For some reason known only them, the folks at fan site PS3 Maven decided that it would be a good idea to have a brand new PS3 microwaved. Why did they do this? I have no idea. TeamXbox posted the video and images of the process.

Uh…Just a suggestion to the folks at PS3 Maven. The next time you have this burning need to destroy a great $400+ Playstation3, give it to somebody who might actually–oh, I don’t know–WANT TO OWN ONE, MAYBE?! Just a thought…

A Few Details on Uncharted 2

IGN got some face time with Naughty Dog lead coder Richard Lemarchand to talk Uncharted 2: Among Thieves. Nothing too juicy was revealed, but if the interview could be nutshelled into one word, it would have to be “detail.”

There is going to be a lot in regards to how Drake moves, and reacts within his environment. According to Richard, Drake will move “organically” within his environment, showing a deeper level of realism than the original game. One of the cool aspects touched on was that if Drake is walking in a snowstorm, he’ll begin to be covered by snowflakes. No mention as to whether each flake of snow would be rendered individually with it’s own physics…Just kidding.

From the posted images, the game looks super sharp, and apparently more than able to knock Killzone2 off the hill for graphics powerhouse on the Playstation3.

Ninja Gaiden II Coming to Playstation 3

March 17th, 2009

It’s unofficially official. Ninja Gaiden 2 will be making its way to the PS3. CVG has the Famitsu scans of their upcomming issue posted. It is supposed that this was to be one of Tecmo’s announcements at next week’s GDC.

Itagaki–the evil genius behind my favorite game series of all time–has never hid his disdain for the Playstation 3. CVG has posted segments of an interview they did with Itagaki during the launch of NG II on the 360 where he states that the game’s release on PS3 would be a “…loss of face to all involved.”

I liked Ninja Gaiden Sigma on PS3. It had just enough of a graphical and gameplay spruce up to make it money well spent. Since all if not most of the people that worked on Ninja Gaiden II are no longer at Tecmo, I’d like to see this be a total re-imagining of Ninja Gaiden II, as opposed to the same code with a few upgrades here or there. Say what you want about Itagaki, but his vision of the ideal action game was the soul of Ninja Gaiden–and in my opinion why the NG series is the last word in action games. Tecmo needs to show and prove that the heart of this series hasn’t died with Itagaki’s departure, but is stronger than ever.

Don’t leave a brotha’ hangin’, Tecmo.

Shield Your Eyes From the Power of the Wii!

I just read an interesting article over at CNET. Apparently Nintendo has realized that they are drastically behind the 360 and PS3, and may be getting ready to equip the Wii for movie streaming capabilities. It’s an interesting notion, but who really wants to watch those movies in glorious 480p over component cables? Perhaps this move is preparation for the next generation Wii, which is almost certain to sport HD capability. Not surprisingly, Nintendo has declined to comment.

Chris Redfield, I repent!

I played the demo of Resident Evil 5 and hated it. Having to be a statue while shooting felt fine in Resident Evil IV but now it feels very dated. We have Gears of War and Call of Duty and most importantly, Dead Space. All of them feel better, more fluid. Resident Evil 5 throws cement on your feet. Even the walking and running aspects of the game feel poorly done.

With all that being said, I rented the game so I could play with a friend (Jdsblackbox). I figured I’d get an hour or two in and the poor controls would make me throw in something fun. I was wrong. This game is great. Your inventory carries over from game to game so you can go and replay the earlier levels to collect ammo and the like and even when I’m grinding it out for ammo, I enjoy it. Right now I’m at work typing about it and wishing I was home killing zombies.

It’s a flawed game. The controls could be better. But it’s very fun. So if you’re like me and hated the controls, it’s still worth giving it a shot.

Would you spend $150 for a controller? Better yet–would you spend $150 on a controller designed with your favorite genre in mind?

Well, I did–with the help of some in store credit. So, was this money well spent, or am I just an idiot–perhaps a little of both? Click the jump to find out.

Just an FYI, Peggle has launched on XboxLIVE today. I have never played it, but I’m looking forward to checking it out. It may be a game I can get my wifey into. Everyone I know who has played it on PC is addicted to it, so make plans for re-hab. GameInfoWire has the press release.
